Take me out...

Throwing out a pitch before a Detroit Tigers game is a dream for any real fan. Former Manistique resident Mark Jarski received that opportunity recently. Entering a Detroit Free Press contest in July, Jarski was one of two lucky winners. Selecting the Aug. 19 game, when Detroit played the Baltimore Orioles, Jarski had the opportunity to throw the opening pitch to Tigers’ pitcher Darin Downs. Beside the two game tickets, he received autographed baseballs from Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland and Downs, and four guest passes, which allowed his family to go out on the field and witness the pregame activities.
