Verice B. Hollister Verice B. Hollister Verice Bernice Hollister, 94, of Manistique, Mich., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba, Mich.

She was born April 8, 1918, in Holt, Mich., the sixth of 10 children to Clayton and Emma (Coon) Larner. She attended the Lott Public School and was a graduate of Holt High School.

On May 10, 1942, the former Verice B. Larner married Carlton E. Hollister in Lansing, Mich. Carlton was employed by the State of Michigan and the Department of Natural Resources at the time. The couple moved to Manistique in 1950 with Carlton’s work transfer. He preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 2004.

Verice was an active member of the Bethel Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church of Manistique. She served on various church boards in a number of capacities. She and her family also volunteered in several local and community service organizations.

Over the years, she and Carlton fostered 53 children.

Verice is survived by her children, Teresa (David) Walters of Geneseo, Ill., Taren (Pamela) Hollister of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Tammy (Brett) Smith of Manistique; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers; two sisters; and an infant son in June of 1948.

Visitation will be held from 4-5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17, at First Baptist Church in Manistique. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m., with Reverend Jay Martin officiating.

Burial will be held in the North Cemetery in Lansing, Mich., on Sept. 19, where she and Carlton will be buried together, side by side, forever.
