As many will recall, a new anti-bullying law was signed by Governor Snyder, known as Matt’s Law. As part of the training required and/or offered, Manistique Area Schools is hosting a national expert on bullying, resiliency, and drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse. His name is Ron Glodoski. Ron will be in our district on Monday, Sept. 24, for a series of presentations with students, staff, and parents/ community members. The evening program is for parents and community beginning at 6 p.m. with refreshments and entertainment in the Middle/High School Cafeteria. The program will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Frederickson Auditorium. There is no charge to attend this presentation.
Mr. Marana, Emerald PE teacher, reminds everyone that Flag Football will begin this Saturday, Sept. 15, and run from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the AF Hall Stadium. It is open to all area youth in grades 4 through 6. No registration is necessary, and it is free! Come and join the fun! If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Marana at 341-4332.
Manistique Area Schools welcomes two new teachers to our staff: Laura Ceccarelli joins the Middle/ High School staff as a special education teacher in the Middle School. Julie Johnson joins the Emerald Elementary staff as a special education teacher/multi-tier system of support teacher. Christine Partyka also rejoins the Emerald staff as a First Grade teacher.
Manistique High School will once again offer the ACT Test on Saturday, Oct. 27. Juniors are encouraged to retake the ACT and do not need to sign up for the writing portion of the ACT. The cost for the student to take the ACT (no writing) is $35. The online registration deadline, without incurring a late fee, is Sept. 21. Students can pick up an ACT online registration booklet and Preparing for the ACT Study Guide from Mr. Rochon in the office Monday, Sept. 17.
Fall sports are underway. The Manistique football Emeralds host the Norway Knights this Friday, Sept. 14, at AF Hall Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday, Sept. 20, JV and varsity volleyball host Iron Mountain starting at 6 p.m. That same evening, JV football plays host to Munising with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Come out and support your Manistique Emerald athletes.
GED has returned to Schoolcraft County as the North Menominee County Community Schools program meets in Room 2 of the Middle/High School Building. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. These classes help you prepare to take the GED tests. The Manistique Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting in the Community Room of the Middle/High School on Monday, Sept. 17, starting at 6:30 p.m.
