‘Dog whisperer’ class to be offered at shelter

MANISTIQUE – The Eva Burrell Animal Shelter will be offering dog-whispering centered training classes on Sept. 15. The class will be presented by Andrew Bek, a certified “people coach” who specializes in dog whispering and training people in leadership and communicating effectively with their pets.

Bek and his golden retriever, Jessie, are a certified pet therapy team and volunteer for the Marquette UPAWS animal shelter. Participants are asked to bring a simple leash, collar, dog, and come prepared to spend time outside. The class will last three hours, rain or shine and is $50 per dog. From each fee, $5 will be donated to the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter.

Classes are limited to 10 dogs and will be held at the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter located at 6091W U.S. 2. Registration for either the 12 – 3 p.m. or the 3:30 – 6:30 class can be completed by emailing abek@thebekgroup.com or by calling (906) 869-8453.

Project Petunia asking for volunteers to water

MANISTIQUE – We’ve all sat back and watched the beautiful gardens bloom and take shape. Now members of Project Petunia are asking for your help to water the in-ground flower beds. With the use of the new watering cart, the task has been made easier.

Beds are also available for adoption. It takes approximately one half hour per week to plant, weed, and remove “deadheads”.

To volunteer your time to help, contact Andrea Wedegartner at 341-2901 or Jackie Bruce at 283- 3867.
