Area girls invited to ‘race’ at fairgrounds

ESCANABA – “Race Like a Girl” is coming to the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba on Sept. 8. The event, sponsored by the UPIR and the Delta Bay Area Girl Scouts, will give girls ages 5-18 a chance to become part of a “pit crew” and learn about racecar driving and maintenance.

Female drivers from the UPIR will be on hand to assist the girls and provide learning experience. Girls will learn how to change a tire and check the oil. The day begins at 4 p.m. and a tailgate dinner will be provided for all girls registered. All registered Girl Scouts will receive free admission to the race.

The cost of this program is $20 and includes the Girl Scout national membership dues of $12. Pre-registration is required by Sept. 1. For more information, or to register girls for the program, contact Jill Johnson at (906) 450-3026 or jjohnson@gsnwgl.org.
