Presbyterian Church to celebrate anniversary

MANISTIQUE – To celebrate its 125th anniversary, the Church of the Redeemer Presbyterian Church will be holding a “Potluck Lunch” immediately following worship service on Aug. 26.

Participants are encouraged to bring a dish and table service. Cake and ice cream will be provided for dessert.

The church is also collecting memories for the 125th anniversary. Items can be sent to Betty LaPointe at 87N County Road 441, Manistique, MI 49854 or by email at blapointe@chartermi.net.

Women’s club planning cranberry festival tour

MANISTIQUE – A fundraiser for the Manistique Township Environmental Education Lab is set for Oct. 6. The event, sponsored by the Manistique chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, will feature a trip to the Celebration of Cranberries festival in Eagle River, Wis.

“There will be something for everyone,” Shirley Leitgeb of Manistique GFWC said. “This is a great trip for couples. Just sit back and enjoy the ride and all the activities in Eagle River.”

The trip will include: meals, antiques, an art fair and flea market. Tours of the cranberry bog and winery are also scheduled.

“The club is donating a portion of the proceeds from the cost of the tickets,” said Liz Hill, Manistique GFWC’s president.

Departures are planned from Manistique and Escanaba on Oct. 6. A Passageways Travel bus will leave Manistique at 7 a.m., picking up others in Escanaba and continuing to Eagle River. It will return to Manistique at approximately 9 p.m.

Tickets are $95 and available at Suzy’s Shadow Box, 219 Cedar St., Manistique or Passageways Travel, 111 N. Lincoln Rd., Escanaba. Beer, food pairing event takes place Saturday

ESCANABA – “Around the World with a Glass of Beer”, a beer and food pairing, will be held Aug. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba. Area chefs Mark Cardinal, Robin Holmes, Gina Rodeghiero, together with 16 beers from Belgium, Germany, the British Isles, and the United States, will be featured.

Members of the Bay de Noc Brewers will be on hand to provide insights into beer making and tasting. Around the World with a Glass of Beer is sponsored by SAV-MOR IGA. Tickets are available for $25 by calling (906) 786-3833 or visiting bonifasarts.org.

Gladstone seniors host water media workshop

GLADSTONE – A 3-day water media workshop will be held at the Gladstone Senior Center from Sept. 28-30. The workshop, taught by artist Mark Mehaffey, a nationally recognized artist, will be teaching from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
