Schuyler A. Bartholomew
Schuyler A. “Sonny” Bartholomew, 83, of Garden, Mich., died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique, Mich.
He was born May 3, 1929, in Ann Arbor, Mich., the son of Schuyler V. and Leda (LaMont) Bartholomew. He attended Catholic grade school in Monroe, as well as other schools in Florida, and also for a short period in Garden. Schuyler entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean conflict.
On Jan. 23, 1960, he married the former Arlene J. Anderson at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden. They made their home and raised their family in Garden Township.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the American Legion, both in Garden, was Garden Township Treasurer for approximately 20 years, and loved to spend time outdoors attending to his personal garden.
Schuyler is survived by his daughters, Mary (Brian) Lyngby of Mesa, Ariz.,
Leda Fields of Milton, Fla.,
Susan (James) Robinson of Vail, Ariz., and Betsy (Tim) Miller of Manistique, Mich.; son, William (Mabel) Bartholomew of Garden; two half-brothers, Orville and Howard Pellitear; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene J. on June 7, 2012.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, at Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Garden. Parish prayers will be recited at 6:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21, at St. John the Baptist Church in Garden with Father Antony Lukka officiating.
Burial will be held in New Garden Cemetery at Garden Township, with military honors to follow.
