St. Francis school sees updates

MANISTIQUE – Classrooms and other areas of St. Francis de Sales Catholic School are currently being revamped in anticipation of the 2012-13 school year. Improvements include: new tile and carpeting, refinishing of the gym floor, paint and an upgrade to a multi-use art and enrichment space for the stage, paint in the classrooms in hallways and upgrades to the playground.

The remainder of the school’s classrooms will received ceiling mounted projectors, and new Smart Board technology and laptops will be used in all of the classrooms.

“Our physical plant and our technology resources will be at an entire new level as we open the 2012-2013 school year,” Father Glenn Theoret of St. Francis de Sales School and Parish said. “What we have done and continue to do to improve our facilities is very visible. However, the physical plant is just a small portion of the improvements this summer.”

“Mrs. Lovell, I, and the school council are committed to our strategic action plan to make St. Francis de Sales School a School of Distinction. Nothing less will be acceptable,” he stressed. “For 112 years, the standards at our school have been second to none. Striving for excellence has been and will continue to be the expectation and the norm. If we expect our children to always do their best, we have to lead by example.”

As SFdS strives to achieve its goals, the staff is implementing a comprehensive strategic action plan. At the heart of that plan is the addition of designated teachers for art and enrichment, physical education, computer technology, and accelerated math. These teachers are in addition to the current accelerated reader and library, music, and Spanish teachers.

New technology is in place for the new online science program and an online language arts curriculum. New Smart Board technology being added to every classroom will allow teachers and students to interact in new ways throughout the curricula, and teachers are spending time this summer preparing to launch the school’s new enhanced curriculum.

St. Francis de Sales School is now accepting new students for the 2012-13 school year. For more information on SFdS, please call the school office at (906) 341- 5512, or visit their website at www.sfdsraiders.com.
