Betty J. Koepke-Kunkleman

Betty J. Koepke- Kunkleman, 81, of Swartz Creek, Mich., died on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich, Mich., after a brief but brave struggle with cancer.

She was born June 11, 1930, to the late Henry and Flistia (Beck) Gilles in Saginaw, Mich. She married Franklin (Bud) Koepke in 1948, which he preceded her in death in 2003.

Betty retired from the Saginaw School District in 1987 and moved with her husband, Bud, to Manistique. Mich. She held positions as secretary and president of the Manistique General Federation of Women’s Club. She also served as president of GFWC District 5. After relocating to Lower Michigan, she married Robert Kunkleman in 2006.

Her fondest wish to see her grandson, Michael Koepke, graduate to become a Wisconsin Evangelical

Lutheran Synod pastor was able to come true by way of the internet. While she resided at the Hospice Care Center she was able to watch a live-stream transmission on her laptop computer when he got his call to work in New Elm, Minn.

Betty was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, friend and member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc, Mich. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Kunkleman; children, Gary (Pam) Koepke of Gulliver, Mich., Ernest (Mary) Koepke of Saginaw, and Karen (Ron) Peterson of Burt, Mich.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Merlien Oehring.

She was preceded in death my two sisters, Joan Schibelhut and Joyce Engelke.

Betty was laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw.
