The 27th annual Schoolcraft County Sportfishing Association Trout and Salmon Derby takes place this Saturday and Sunday in Manistique.

The event boasts guaranteed prizes of $3,000 for the first place salmon, and $2,000 for the first place trout. Second through eighth place will also receive cash prizes in both categories.

Three days of pre-fishing, started on Monday, to serve as a kickoff to the event. For each day, a $250, $150, and $100 prize were paid to the first, second, and third largest fish, respectively.

The derby entry fee is $25 per person, with 90 percent payback of registration fee funding prizes. There will also be numerous door prizes and drawings.

Prizes will be based on the greatest weight, with length serving as a tie-breaker. The fish must be an indigenous salmon or trout caught in Lake Michigan during derby hours, by a registered contestant, from a registered boat.

Each paid entrant may claim only one prize in each division, and must be present to win.
