‘Project Fresh’ still available to seniors

MANISTIQUE – Officials at the Manistique Senior Center are reminding residents that “Project Fresh” coupons are still available. The $20 worth of coupons can be redeemed at participating farmer’s markets and stands throughout the state, including locally.

Coupons are available to seniors who are 60 years of age or older, a resident of Schoolcraft County, and who meet the following income guidelines: for a household of one, $20,147 or under or, for a household of two, $27,214 or under.

Participants who automatically qualify, but must still show proof of their qualification, are: food stamp recipients, Social Security recipients, commodities participants, and seniors living in subsidized senior housing.

The Project Fresh coupons can be used to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables, can be used until Oct. 31 and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. They can be picked up at the Manistique Senior Citizen Center between 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
