Arlene M. McDermaid

Arlene M. McDermaid, 84, of Mt. Morris, Mich., died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Living Joy in Flushing, Mich.

Arlene was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Manistique, Mich., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Marie (Theisen) McNamara. She and Bill McDermaid were united in marriage Aug. 26, 1950, in Mt. Morris.

After attaining her teacher’s certificate, she moved to the Mt. Morris area where she was a teacher in the Mt. Morris School System for many years, retiring in 1984. She was also a member of the National and Michigan Education Associations. Arlene was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Bill; three children, Kathy (Steve) Middleditch, Kelli (Chris) Thompson and Joe (Jackie) McDermaid; seven grandchildren; Keri (Tare) Wigod, Wendy (Tom) Boike, Curtis (Hali) Thompson, Katie (Keith) Phillips, Tracy (Josh) Taylor, Tim (Kristen) McDermaid and Becky (Tony) Neumann; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Butler; brother, Bob (Dianne) McNamara, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jim Mc- Namara.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at noon Thursday, July 19, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Arlene’s family was present at the Martin Funeral, Cremation and Tribute Services to receive friends Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m. Family, friends and parish gathered at the funeral home to pray the rosary at 6 p.m. On Thursday morning, Arlene will be taken to the church to lie in state from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at noon.
