Manistique man charged with embezzlement, forgery
MANISTIQUE – A Manistique man has been charged with forgery and embezzlement from the Manistique Moose Lodge. The arrest followed a joint investigation between the Michigan State Police – Manistique Detachment and the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department.
Ray Hayford, 56, was arraigned in the 93rd District Court Wednesday, according to a press release from the MSP. He faces five felony charges, including four counts of forgery, each carrying a maximum penalty of up to 14 years in prison, and one count of embezzlement over $1,000, but under $20,000, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
Hayford was lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail, but is currently released on a $5,000, ten percent bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 30 at 1:30 in district court.
