Home mortgage approval, loans available at EDC
MANISTIQUE – Desiree McCurley of USDA Rural Development will be in the Schoolcraft County EDC office on July 31.
McCurley will be pre-qualifying applicants for a home mortgage or home repair loans. Also available are MSHDA funds, offered by the EDC, of $10,000 for down payment/closing costs, plus $20,000 for home rehabilitation.

North Menominee to offer GED classes in Manistique
MANISTIQUE – North Menominee County Community Schools is partnering with Manistique Area Schools to provide GED classes in the area. The program is currently in the process of hiring a teacher for the adult education classes to be offered in fall.
The classes will be held evenings at the Manistique High School in Room 2 across from the library. These classes will help prepare students to take the GED. If enrolled with the program, it can help pay for GED tests.
More specific details about classes and times will be available later this summer.

‘Strings on the Bay’ will return for July 24 concert
ESCANABA – The “Strings on the Bay” 2012 Series at Bay College continues with its second concert of three at 7:30 p.m., July 24 at the Besse Center Theatre. The program, entitled “Point/Counterpoint”, features a string trio with Paul Lundin, violin, Joseph Deller, viola and Dan Thomas, cello. A reception with light refreshments and a chance to meet the performers will follow the concert.
Tickets are $10 ($12.50 online), and $5 for students with ID. Tickets are available at the Bay College box office Mon.- Fri. from 8 – 4:30 p.m., online at www.baycollege.edu/tickets, or at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m. on the evening of the performance.
State employee retirees to meet July 30 in Escanaba
ESCANABA – The U.P. Chapter 16 of the State Employees Retirees Association will hold its monthly meeting on July 30 at 1:30 p.m. in the conference room of the State Office Building in Escanaba.
Please note the change of date for this meeting; there will be no August meeting held.
All members and their guests are encouraged to attend.
