Michael A. Simonelli
Michael Angelo Simonelli, 80, of Garden, Mich., died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Marquette General Hospital.
Michael was born in Monroe, Mich., on Aug. 24, 1931, the son Michael and Dorothy (Murphy) Simonelli. He graduated from Monroe High School, then entered the armed forces, serving with the United States Marine Corps from 1949-1953.
He was employed for over 30 years with the City of Monroe Fire Department No. 40, acquiring the position of lieutenant.
On Feb. 14, 2011, he married the former Bonnie (Lowe).
Michael spent most of his life in the Monroe area, and moved to Garden in 2001. He was a lifetime member of the V.F. W., and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; sons, Mark Simonelli, Jack Simonelli and Nathan (Rachel) Barnhizer; daughters Stephanie Kilgus, Nicole Barnhizer and Nancy (Brandon) VanSickle; grandchildren, Charles Kitchen, Christina and Daniel Simonelli, Rachael and Chelsea Kilgus, and Thomas Barnhizer; great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Savanna Simonelli. Also surviving are his sisters, Gloria Burchett and Rose (Bob) Woodward.
He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Dorothy Simonelli; brothers, Jack, Edward, Todd and Tom; and his sisters, Betsy Webb and Dorothy “Fimmy” Baily.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14, at 2 p.m., at Garden Congregational Church, 6423 State St., Garden, with Pastor Lon Hider officiating.
