Lawn, Ill., passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born on May 21, 1935, in
Gulliver, Mich., the son of Andrew and Lillian (Burnham) Mickelson.
He attended Manistique area schools and always considered the
Manistique area home.
On May 17, 1957, he married the former Patricia A. Dunleavy in
Chicago. She preceded him in death Oct. 15, 1988.
Harold worked for Fischer Body (General Motors) in Willow Springs, Ill., for 33 years.
He enjoyed spending time with family, working on automobiles, and building his dream home on Gulliver Lake.
Harold is survived by a son, David (Eileen) Mickelson of Raleigh, N.C.; daughters, Sharon (Cesar) Vallejo of Schaumburg, Ill., and Sandra (the late Aaron) Jagger of Camden, Mich.; and his sister, Mildred Mickelson of Oak Lawn, Ill.
He was a wonderful grandfather, affectionately called “Grumpa” by his five grandchildren, Tessa, Ashley and Kelly Jagger, and Alex and Emily Vallejo. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews; and two special companions, Precious and Bailey, who brought him much happiness. Harold also had a special person in his life, Doreen, who held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Maxine Baze and Delores E. (Harold “Bubs”) Hughson.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, July 6, at Messier- Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A graveside service followed at 12:15 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique with Reverend Eleanor Russey officiating.
