Organizers tout ‘revered’ festival, now 23 years old

MANISTIQUE – Folkfest returns this weekend, and organizers are ready for another successful year. This year, the two day event is boasting plenty of entertainment, as well as some new additions.

“Folkfest has been a staple of Manistique’s summer for 23 years, bringing a festive atmosphere to locate old friends, reunite with family, and meeting new friends who are visiting the area,” said Paul Walker, one Folkfest organizer. “Summer in Manistique just wouldn’t be the same without the sounds and smells of our revered Folkfest with great food, and music for everyone.”

Festivities kick off on Friday with the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter Pet Parade at 6 p.m. Next, attendees can enjoy the music of Gator and the River Boys Band from 6:30 – 9:30 and The Floyd Brothers Band from 9:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. The “Paul Bunyan Beer Garden” will be open for the duration of the first evening, from 5:30 p.m. – 1 a.m. Some food vendors will also be available during this period.

Food vendors, arts and craft vendors, Abra Cadabra Arcade Jumps, “Kid’s Lane”, and the information booth will be set up by 10 a.m. and remain in place until 5 p.m. A new “Information Alley” will also be featured this year, and will include various community organizations.

“Each year Folkfest grows in notoriety in which requires more and more space to accommodate numerous food venders, the Paul Bunyan Beer Pub, arts and crafts booths, diverse wares, and our ever popular Children’s Fun-Lane,” explained Walker.

At 10:30 a.m., attendees can also enjoy the newly added silent auction near the event stage. This auction will run until 5 p.m. and features items donated by local merchants to support the Schoolcraft County Chamber of Commerce. At 5 p.m., there will also be a live auction in front of the event stage, located at the intersection of Oak and Cedar streets. “Nascar Bob” Williams will be the auctioneer for this event.
