Break-in leads to arrests

NEWBERRY – A total of four suspects have been charged in connection to a breaking and entering in Newberry on June 27. The incident occurred on County Road 405 in Luce County, according to a press release from Michigan State Police – Newberry Detachment.

The following individuals were arraigned in 92nd District Court in Newberry on June 28: Teresa Faye Kinney, 32, of Newberry; Markus Allen Kinney, 18, of Newberry; and Zachary Matthew Sturgeon, 21, of Newberry.

All three adult suspects were charged with assault with intent to rob while armed, a felony punishable by up to life in prison, as well as first degree home invasion, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

A juvenile suspect was also apprehended and was arraigned as an adult on the same charges.

The incident occurred at a residence in the early morning hours of June 27, police said. Several suspects in dark clothing broke into the home and held a male occupant at knife point while the suspects stole prescription drugs. The suspects then fled the area, causing minor injury to the male occupant.

Troopers began investigating the home invasion and soon developed and arrested the suspects.
