Kouw sentenced for charges
MANISTIQUE – A Manistique man was sentenced to 60 days in jail and 12 months of probation during a court hearing Tuesday. The sentence stems from an incident which occurred on May 1.
On June 13, Larry Alan Kouw, of 596 County Road 440, was found guilty of: one count of assault and battery; one count of malicious destruction of property over $200, but less than $1,000; and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was acquitted of the other two charges.
On Tuesday, 93rd District Court Judge Mark E. Luoma ordered Kouw to 12 months probation, which includes: a no-contact order with the victims; an order not to consume intoxicants or be in the presence of anyone illegally doing so; and random drug/alcohol testing. The judge noted that the remainder of Kouw’s sentence would be held in abeyance, meaning if he violates any condition of his probation or any other law, he will be ordered to serve 305 days. Kouw must also pay fines and costs associated with his case.
Judge Luoma also ordered that Kouw repair a fence damaged during the incident, and that he remove all signs or objects that may be offensive to his neighbors.
