Gertrude E. Warren
She was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Manistique, the daughter of Jess and Marion (Cool) Wharfield and attended Manistique area schools. She was a graduate of Manistique High School.
The former Gertrude E. Wharfield married Thelmer B. Warren in Napoleon, Ohio on July 19, 1945. They made their home in Clawson, Mich., and moved to Manistique following Thelmer’s retirement. He preceded her on Jan. 2, 2003.
Gert was self-employed as a seamstress for many years and upon moving to Manistique, was employed as a nurse’s aide at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manistique. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, playing cards, playing the piano, and joking with others. She was a former P.T.A. President.
Gertrude is survived by her sons, Ron (Sharon) Snyder of Houghton Lake, Mich., and Douglas (Sandra) Warren of Royal Oak, Mich.; daughter, Susan (Ronald) Klich of Manistique; daughter-in-law, Lori Warren of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Janice Boggs of Centralia, Wash.; along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Thelmer, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Vernon Snyder; son, David Warren; and sisters, Helen Faulkner and Merle Culey.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 22, at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique with Reverend Jay Martin officiating.
