Environmental lab hosts photo contest

MANISTIQUE – Summer is in full bloom, so get out and take some pictures. They could result in a prize. The Manistique Township Environmental Education Laboratory has announced its second annual amateur photo contest. Individuals of all ages are invited to enter photographs they take at the preserve any time between now and Jan. 30, 2013.

“We want to encourage everyone to come and enjoy this terrific natural resource right here in our area,” said Doug Smith, chair of the EEL board. “Additionally, we need to build up a library of photos that can be used in our publications. This means that, win or lose, your photo could be included in our publications.” Pictures of plants, animals and people enjoying the preserve are welcome.

Smith explained entries will be judged in February. Winners will be announced in spring and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

The rules are simple: all photos must be taken on the grounds of the Environmental Education Laboratory by Dec. 31; both black and white and color photos are eligible.

Request an entry form by sending an email to environmentallab@live.com. Black and white or color photos must be submitted in 5x7 or 8x10 formats. All entries must be submitted by Jan. 30, 2013 to EEL Photo Contest, c/o Cindy McDaniel, 9254W Fragale Rd., Manistique, MI 49854.

Entries will be retained by EEL and may be used in our publications, webpages and presentations. EEL cannot be responsible for any damage to photographs. A complete list of the rules is attached to the entry form.

The lab is located about three miles east of Manistique. Take U.S. 2 East to River Road. Go North on River Road to Krummich Road. Turn left on Krummich, and proceed one and a half miles to the Environmental Education Lab parking area.
