Arlene J. Bartholomew

Arlene J. Bartholomew, 76, of Garden, Mich., died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique, Mich.

She was born May 7, 1936, in Manistique the daughter of Verner and Irene (Tufnell) Anderson. She attended Manistique area schools and was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1955.

On Jan. 23, 1960, the former Arlene J. Anderson married Schuyler “Sonny” Bartholomew at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden. They made their home and raised their family in Garden Township.

Arlene was employed as the housekeeper at Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Garden for several years and also worked as a teacher’s aide with the Title 1 program at Big Bay de Noc School.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden, St. John’s Altar Society, St. Anne’s Circle and St. John’s Choir. She enjoyed crocheting and plastic craft and also reading to the children at the Big Bay Library.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Schuyler D. Bartholomew of Garden; daughters, Mary (Brian) Lyngby of Mesa, Ariz., Leda Fields of Milton, Fla., Susan (James) Robinson of Vail, Ariz., and Betsy (Tim) Miller of Manistique; son, William (Mabel) Bartholomew of Garden; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Kathryn) Anderson of Manistique and Carl “Chum” (Joyce) Anderson of Missoula, Mont.; along with nieces and nephews.

Visitation was 4-7 p.m., Monday, June 11, at Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Garden. Parish prayers were recited at 7 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, at St. John the Baptist Church in Garden with Father Frank Lenz officiating.
