Play ball!

The CUP baseball league kicked off the 2012 baseball season in grand fashion Saturday. Following last minute touches to the Denton Nelson ball field, the day long festivities got underway with the singing of the National Anthem by Cindy Silkworth. Formed in 2006 with a debt of $10,000, two of its original founders, John Miller and Randy Knuth held a “Burning of the note”, in this case tearing of the note ceremony. Seven years ago, the group personally borrowed funds to assist in the construction of the field along with several other improvements to the site. Through fundraisers and other activities, the debt was paid off. For their work and dedication to the program, Miller and Knuth had the honors of destroying the note.
