Nagy shoots low card at Pictured Rocks

MUNISING – The Emeralds’ Mike Nagy shot a low card 71 to medal at the Pictured Rocks Invitational Friday in Munising, six strokes ahead of St. Ignace’s Patrick Sweeney.

Tyler Prophet, of Westwood, shot 78. Dylan Pohl, of North Central, Phil LaMarch, of Escanaba, and Michael Mannisto, of Munising, each shot 79, and were the only other players to shoot under 80 out of a field of 70 golfers.

St. Ignace won the match with a team score of 322, Marquette came in second with 325, Escanaba had 334, Westwood 336, Munising 338, Manistique 357, Negaunee 361, North Central 374, Ishpeming 375, Bark River-Harris, 390, Gladstone 396, Gwinn 397, and Newberry shot 423.

In addition to Nagy, Tanner Watson shot a 94, Nathan Rahn 95, and Zach Powers 97.

Hailey Hoholik paced the Emerald girls with a 109. Escanaba won the match with a team score 427. Marquette came in second with a 430, Munising 470, Gladstone 475, Manistique 478, Bark River- Harris 507, and Mid-Pen 557. In addition to Hoholik, Kylie Bowers shot a 115, Emily Wilson 125, Breanna Bosanic 129, and Stephanie Halpin 137.

The Emeralds’ junior varsity beat Escanaba 193 to 201 at home Tuesday.

Josh Hentschell medaled in the match, with a low score of 46. Zach Powers, Wilson, and Rahn all turned in 49’s to lead the Emeralds to victory.
