Giles qualified for the U.P. Finals with a first place effort in the shot put, completing a toss of 32’7”. She also had a second place finish in the discus.

Lockwood captured second place in the pole vault.

Additionally, the 400-meter relay team of Elisa MacGregor, Kyra Lauzon, Shelby Carlson and Hannah Bryant qualified with a second place finishing time of 53.31.

Marquette won the meet with a team score of 69, Escanaba had 36, Menominee 31, Gladstone 22, Sault Ste. Marie 15 and Manistique 14.

“Unfortunately we did not qualify as many as I hoped, but it certainly had nothing to do with how hard the girls worked,” Coach Chris Marana said. “The competition was very strong and we just came up a little short, with two of our relay teams falling short by less than a tenth of a second.”

U.P. Finals will be held on Saturday, June 2, in Kingsford.
