Big Bay athletes make it to finals

4 athletes earn spot

MUNISING – Brittany Richard and Cole Potvin qualified for the U.P. Finals with dominating performances at the Division 3 finals in Munising last weekend.

Richard qualified in three events, while Potvin qualified in four.

The Lady Bears finished in fifth place – the boy’s team in sixth.

Richard medaled in the 1600-meter run, finishing first with a time of 5.49.32. She followed that effort with a second place finish in the 800, finishing the day with a medal, taking the 3200-meter run with a time of 12.58.92.

Rachel Leckson will also represent the Black Bears in the high jump, where she placed third.

Coming off a third place finish in the 1600-meter run, Potvin placed second in the 400-meter run and third in the 200. Qualifying in three track events, Potvin placed first in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’8”.

Kyle Reidenga will join Potvin on the trip to Kingsford; Reidenga finished fourth in the discus.

Boys: Bark River-Harris 55, Rapid River 51.5, Mid Peninsula 21, Munising 20.5, Superior Central 19, Big Bay de Noc 13, North Central 6.

Girls: Superior Central 52, Bark River-Harris 43, Rapid River 24, North Central 23, Big Bay de Noc and Munising 16, Mid Peninsula 12.
