Boater’s safety class to be offered

MANISTIQUE – The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a Boater’s Safety Education Course on Thursday, May 31, from 4–9 p.m. at the Schoolcraft County Courthouse in Conference Room 2. The following rules apply to boaters:

• Persons born after December 31, 1978, shall not operate a personal watercraft unless they obtain a boating safety certificate.

• Operators age 12-15 may operate a boat powered by more than six horsepower only if they have passed a boating safety course and have on board their boating safety certificate or are accompanied by a person at least 16 years of age.

The sheriff’s department recommends anyone who operates a vessel or spends time on the water take a boating safety course. The course is free of charge and all materials will be provided.
