Women’s club helps celebrate at MCF

MANISTIQUE – The G.F.W.C. Women’s Club of Manistique recently helped in the birthday celebrations of eight residents, as well as the honoring of mothers, in observance of Mother’s Day, at the Medical Care Facility.

On May 16, the entertainment for the day was “Mud Hole Band”, introduced by Jeanne Gunderson. Sally Schuetter, as well as Hugh McNeil, Eugene Salter, Ron Frenette and LeRoy Hoffman, led the group in singing eight “Happy Birthday’s” and “Happy Mother’s Day To You”, and also presented two decorated cakes for everyone.

Handmade bright lap robes were given to the birthday recipients, along with a card. The robes are made by the generosity of local women, and are appreciated by the club and recipients alike.

Those celebrating birthdays were: Rudy Mikuska, Schuyler Bartholomew, Arlene Bartholomew, Siri Wolfe, Carole Schultz, Milton Farley, Charlotte Dragos and Cinderella Shaffer.

While the guests enjoyed refreshments, they were entertained with music. Some of the tunes enjoyed were: “Honkey Tonk Angel”, “Pour Me Another Cup of Coffee”, “Hey Good Looking”, “Merrily We Roll Along” and, lastly, “Goodnight Ladies, So Long Gentlemen.”

Women’s Club volunteers were: Jeanne Gundersen, Betty DeSautel, Irene Hinkson, Ona Allen, Betty Slining, Betty Briggs, Diane Beaman, Chris Sanders, Pat Mickelson and Carol Carlson.

The June party will be on Wednesday, June 20. Entertainment will be provided by Mike Johnson and Tom Hoholik.
