Trash to treasure sale this weekend

Fundraiser will benefit local historical society

MANISTIQUE – Residents are invited to participate in the Schoolcraft County Historical Society’s Trash to Treasure Sale set for Saturday, May 19.

The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Little Bear West Arena.

Many residents have been cleaning and rummaging through their belongings and saving some of the best items for the sale, said Schoolcraft Historical Society President Vonciel LeDuc.

“It’s a win-win for everyone,” she explained.

The sale will serve as a fundraiser for the society.

“We lost most of our county funding and needed to find a new source of cash for our operations,” LeDuc added.

One last chance to donate will take place on Friday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at Little Bear West Arena.

The GFWC Manistique Women’s Club is assisting the organization with preparations for the sale by collecting items for the sale, organizing, pricing and staffing.

“We think the Historical Society is a vital community resource,” explained Shirley Leitgeb, chair of the club’s special events committee. “We were anxious to help.”

St. Vincent de Paul Society will offer snacks and light lunch items during the sale. Proceeds will benefit the society’s store on Cedar Street in Manistique.

For more information or to donate items, call 341-5045 or 341- 2863.
