Speakers set for meeting

Community Connection will take place May 21

MANISTIQUE – The Schoolcraft County Coalition for Safe and Stable Housing will hold their next monthly Community Connection meeting on Monday, May 21, at 6 p.m. in the Manistique Public Library.

Guest speakers will be Laurie Jasmin, Schoolcraft County EDC Director and Desiree McCurley, USDA Rural Development Area Specialist.

The Schoolcraft County EDC administers MSHDA Housing programs which include the homeowner rehabilitation and homebuyer purchase with rehabilitation. They also administer the Property Improvement Program which helps homeowners and/or landlords obtain a loan for necessary repairs.

USDA Rural Development is an agency committed to providing affordable housing in rural communities. Eligible applicants can get great financing for construction of a new home, purchase of an existing home or home repairs.

The two programs have been working together successfully in Schoolcraft County for over 10 years and have provided many families with their housing needs.

The EDC and USDA RD are equal opportunity providers, employers and lenders, and support fair housing in accordance with all federal and state laws.
