Emeralds struggle as a team away and on home greens, individuals fare well

Photo courtesy of Portraits Plus MANISTIQUE - Manistique Emeralds Mike Nagy won the Kiwanis Invitational golf match in Negaunee Tuesday. The Emerald senior finished the 18-hole event with a low card 74. Calumets Reese Lassila and Escanaba’s Kevin Gendron shared second place finishing with 79, five strokes off the pace.

Calumet won the match with a team score 326. Westwood 337, Munising 344, Houghton 346, Escanaba 349, Iron Mountain 354, Negaunee 359, L’Anse 365, Norway 365, Manistique 367, Gwinn 371, Ishpeming 412.

In addition to Nagy, Josh Hentschell shot a season low 41. Zack Powers 47, Nick LaFave 52.

Nagy medaled in the match finishing with a low card 36. Hentschell 47, Powers 47, Nathan Rahn 53, LaFave 55.

Kylie Bowers paced the Emerald girl’s with a low card 120 in Negaunee. Houghton won the match finishing with a team score 375. Calumet 407, Westwood 418, Iron Mountain 451, Negaunee 472, Munising 482, Ishpeming 500, Manistique 505, Norway 515, L’Anse 519.

In addition to Bowers, Hailey Hoholik shot a 122, Breanna Bosanic 126, Steph Halpin 137.

Westwood won the triangular match in Manistique Monday with a team score 230. Menominee finished second with 237, followed by the Emeralds with a 257. Hoholik paced the Emerald girl’s with a 55. Bosanic 64, Halpin 66, Bowers 72, Chelsie Swayer 74.

Manistique traveled to Gwinn Wednesday after press time.
