Constance D. Wood

Constance D. Wood, 83, of 205 North First St., Manistique, Mich., died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.

She was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Phelps, Wis., the daughter of Don and Hazel (Morden) Hastings and attended Manistique area schools. She was a graduate of Manistique High School.

In her earlier years, Connie was employed as a bookkeeper at Manistique Pulp and Paper Company, at Gardner’s Hotel, and later worked at Limestone Federal Credit Union. Connie then accepted a position in the office at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital and retired as office manager.

She enjoyed knitting, reading, and playing cribbage. She was a former member of the women’s bowling league and a former scout leader. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Connie is survived by her sons, David (Sherry) Wood of Maribel, Wis., and Donald “Butch” (Barb) Wood of Manistique; daughters, Sandra (Brent) Rochefort of Manistique and Billie “Buffy” (Robert) Bruggeman of Manistique; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one greatgreat grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation was held from 1-4 p.m., Monday, May 7, at Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Funeral services followed at 4 p.m., at the funeral home, with Celebrant Carole Cooper officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.
