Broullire and Ramey set Kiwanis meet records

Meet records by Ryan Ramey and Kenner Broullire weren’t enough to lift the Emerald boys track and field team past Marquette Saturday at the annual Kiwanis Invitational in Manistique.

Ramey set a new meet record in the 400-meter dash with his time of 53.35. Set in 2007, the previous record was held by Justin Wigand of Mid-Peninsula.

Crossing the finish line in 41.49, Broullire shattered the 300-meter hurdle record of 42.17 held by Cubby Litzner .

Marquette tallied up 108 points to win the event. Manistique was second with 101. Big Bay de Noc scored 26 points and Gwinn 16.

The Emeralds got off to a strong start, finishing first in three of the five field events.

Broullire captured the long jump with a distance of 18-10. Zack Lambert crossed the bar at 10-06 to finish first in the long jump, and the wind was not a factor for Jared Edwards, who won the discus with a throw of 109-08.

Looking to extend the Emerald lead, the 3,200-meter relay team of Bryson Lawrence, John Rahn, Robert Ayotte and Ryan Ramey won their race, crossing the line at 8:59.27. Broullire also captured first place in the 100-meter dash with his time of 11.82, Lawrence medaled taking first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.07.

From there, Marquette and Manistique battled for the top spots in the remaining events.

Fourth place finishes: Ayotte, 1,600-meter run, 5:36.51; Travis Bolm, 300-meter intermediate hurdles, 48.23; Ayotte, 3,200-meter run, 12:22.30.
