Bears compete at Kiwanis meet

With a solid pace throughout, Big Bay de Noc’s Brittney Richard captured the 3,200-meter run with her time of 12:39.42 at the Kiwanis Invitational Saturday in Manistique.

The Bears’ distance runner medaled in three events for the day. In addition to the 3,200, she finished second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:48.66 and third in the 800-meter run, crossing the line with a time of 2:37.

Joining Richard in the medal count, Rachel Leckson captured third place in the high jump, crossing the pole at a height of 4-08.

Kelsi Stapelton and Laural Channel tied for fifth place in the 100-meter dash with the time of 14.76.

Second place finishes by Kyle Reidenga and Cole Potvin would be as close as the Black Bear boys would get in a very competitive field at the Kiwanis meet.

Reidenga captured second place in the discus with his throw of 105 feet. Potvin, who placed in four events, took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.57.
