Robert F. Gilbertson

Robert “Bob” F. Gilbertson, 73, of N. 6th St., Manistique, Mich., died early Thursday evening, March 29, 2012, at the Schoolcraft County Medical Care Facility.

Bob was born on Sept. 12, 1938, in Park Falls, Wis., to the late Fred and Ruth (Olson) Gilbertson. Bob graduated from Ontonagon High School and then served two years in the U.S. Army.

He married A. Pauline Sherwood in Munising, Mich. Bob worked construction in Wisconsin and then moved to Manistique. He worked as a mechanic at Curran Chevrolet for 32 years before retiring in 2000. Bob was a past member of the Eagles Club and enjoyed taking rides with Pauline. When he was young, he enjoyed fishing and gardening. Bob also enjoyed his pets, especially his dog, Sid.

Bob is survived by his wife, Pauline; children, Bobby, Carson, Jalene, Corina, Rodney, and Jimmy; brothers, Tom Gilbertson, Lawrence (Linda) Gilbertson, and Fred (Pat) Gilbertson; sister, Eleanor (George) Bittner; sister-in-law, Wanda Gilbertson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Jimmy and brothers, Gary and Edwin.

Services were held at Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Wednesday, April 4. Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pastor Kevin Taylor of the Assembly of God Church in Harvey conducted Bob’s service in the funeral home’s chapel. Interment was at Maple Grove Cemetery where Alger County’s American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard conducted military honors.
