After taking a year off, the In the Garden Quilt Ministry at Hiawatha Country Church, located 12 miles north of Manistique on Highway M-94, held their quilt workshop on April 27 and 28. Over the two days, those in attendance had the opportunity to learn a new skill, refresh their memory on tasks not often done and enjoy the companionship of others. At times you could only hear the hum of the machines as they diligently worked on their projects. Celebrating their 14th anniversary this year, the group originally started with six women in the kitchen of Bonnie Harrington. All the quilts constructed by the group are given away and are a comfort to individuals who have been in car accidents, diagnosed with health issues or other tragedies. To date they have shared their talents with 1,366 recipients. Gospel singer Ken Osborne was in attendance also and performed for the group both days.
