SMCF celebrates eight April Birthdays with Easter parade

Residents and staff at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility celebrated eight April birthdays along with an Easter parade on Wednesday, April 18.

Celebrating birthdays were Paul Thibedeau, Sara Wilson, Shirley Grames, Betty Heible, Vivian Smith, Janice Britton, Francis Meyst and Joanne Englehart. Each honoree was presented with a beautiful handmade lap robe made by community ladies, a birthday card and a happy birthday song.

Easter was the theme of the day and many Easter bonnets were shown off by both volunteers and residents. Vintage hats and homemade hats were everywhere, with everyone thinking theirs the prettiest.

Mary Larson and her singers, the Henry family, Dick, Les, Dave and Sally sang “In Your Easter Bonnet” as volunteers paraded around the dining room. Inspired by the parade and music, residents did much clapping and a good time was had by all. The entertainers, along with Katelyn Berry, an aide at the facility, did a fantastic two hours of performance.

A beautiful decorated Easter cake made by Rita Rossier was served along with ice cream and coffee to all, including many guests.

GFWC members and volunteers participating in the festivities were Jeanne Gundersen, Irene Hinkson, Betty DeSautel, Carol Carlson, Sandy LaFave, Betty Slining, Betty Harding, Dorothy Hoholik, Betty Briggs and Katelyn Berry.

Mary and gang signed of with the “Hello, Goodbye Song,” the perfect ending to a beautiful afternoon.

The May party will be held on May 16 with Sally Schuetter and the popular “Mud Hole Band.”
