Annual Women’s Prayer Day

For the sixth year, women of the Garden Area Catholic churches gathered with their sisters in faith from the Congregational churches for a morning of prayer, reflection on Scripture, discussion and socializing. Using the Gospel passage from Luke 14 on inviting the poor, crippled and outcast to dinner, Irma Hider reflected on humility vs. performance. The women then moved across the street to St. Johns for a presentation by Sister Marilyn Winter, O.P. from Adrian, Mich., who spoke on humility as truth and shared her experiences with women from the many countries she has visited around the world. She also spoke on our responsibility to help others become all they can be through our sharing of our own lives, gifts and talents and also distinguishing between mentoring someone to become who they are and being a model for one to imitate. A salad luncheon completed the morning.
