The 2012 high school golf season got underway at Indian Lake Golf and Country Club Tuesday afternoon, with the Manistique Emeralds playing host to the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears.

The Manistique boys edged Big Bay 188 to 226.

The girls won by default; Big Bay did not field enough girls to turn in a team score.

Mike Nagy paced the boys’ field, firing off a 37 in his first outing of the season. Josh Hentschell turned in a 47, Nick LaFave 48, Zach Powers 56 and Clay Weigle 58

Bobby Holmberg paced Big Bay with a low card 50. Alex Ranquette shot a 56, Garret Garvin 57, Cole Potvin 63 and Brett LaLonde 67.

Emily Wilson led the Emerald girls with a low card 57. Freshman Hailey Hoholik was one stroke off the pace, shooting a 58. Kylie Bowers finished with a 68, Breanna Bosanic 68, Steph Halpin 74.

Big Bay travels to Mid Pen Monday afternoon.
