New from the Townships

Inwood Township

The regular meeting of the Inwood Township Board was held on Wednesday, March, 21, 2012.

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by Supervisor P. Hardy. Board members present were P. Hardy, A. Williams, C. Watchorn, B. Landis and K. Silkworth

A motion was made by C. Watchorn, supported by A. Williams that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted as presented. Motion carried.

Motion was made by A. Williams, supported by K. Silkworth that the treasurer’s report (reconciliation Summary) with and ending balance of $77,555.85 be accepted as presented. Motion carried.

Craig Kelso presented the Board with a copy of the Schoolcraft County Road Commission’s 2011 annual financial report and also answered questions.

Under new business, the Board

• reviewed the profit, loss and budget vs. actual report presented by the Clerk.

• approved amending the budget as follows: $1,500 from the Public Works account to the Town Hall account, motion carried.

• approved Spring Clean Up for May 14-19 with a 600 lb. weight limit and the same stipulations as in the 2011 ad, motion carried.

• approved the 2012-13 rates, fees and wage schedule as presented with no changes, motion carried.

• reviewed the 2012-13 proposed budget; this budget may or may not be adopted at the March 21, 2012 meeting.

• approved payment of outstanding bills in the amount of $9,115.43 and deposits in the amount of $35,515.38 as presented by the Clerk.

John Weimer stated in public comments that there is a business on 30th Street in Escanaba that will accept, at no charge, microwaves, refrigerators, freezers, etc., without a Freon certificate required.

Motion to adjourn was made by C. Watchorn at 7:45 p.m., supported by B. Landis, motion carried.

Mueller Township

Public meeting of the Mueller Township Board on the 2012-13 budget was called to order at 7 p.m. Public comment was heard and the meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.

The regular meeting of the Mueller Township Board was held on Tuesday, March, 20, 2012.

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. All Board members were present.

Actions taken were:

• Approval of minutes from February 21, 2012, meeting.

• Review and approval of Treasurer’s report.

• Review and approval of Clerk’s report.

• Approved payments of bills #4908-4931.

• Adoption of General Appropriations Act for Mueller Township 2012-13.

• Approved adjustments to current 2011-12 budget.

• Approved 2012-13 Board meeting dates.

Meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m. Doyle Township

Doyle Township held its regularly monthly meeting March 14, at the Doyle Township Hall at 4:30 p.m. Supervisor Lynn Norton called the meeting to order. Roll call: Supervisor Lynn Norton, Treasurer Sherry Hampton, Clerk Tracy Smith, Trustees Julie Norton and William Pawley, also present Assessor Albert Vail, Fire Chief Allen Schultz, Dale DuFour, Bernard Lund, Greg Hase, and Craig Kelso.

Craig Kelso from Schoolcraft County Road Commission stated there is a failing culvert on Michibay Road, section 9. They have a permit in to repair this and are waiting for DNR approval.

Clerk Tracy Smith presented the Board with the bills for the month and last month’s minutes were published on the township website. Trustee J. Norton made a motion to pay the bills for the month and approve last month’s minutes seconded by Treasurer S. Hampton, motion carried.

Budget Meeting will be held at the Doyle Township Hall on March 28, at 4:30 p.m.

Treasurer S. Hampton presented the Board with a written Treasurer report for the General Fund, Tax Account, and Fire Mileage.

Fire Chief Allen Schultz gave Board a bill he received for yearly dues for the U.P. Fire Chiefs Associations in the amount of $50. Trustee J. Norton made a motion to accept this bill and pay it, seconded by Trustee W. Pawley, motion carried.

Carmeuse donated a 1982 Van to the Fire Department; the van will be used as a support vehicle. Schultz received a price from Chris Malloy to remove old lettering from the van and replace with new and to also put new letter on the 3 other trucks. The cost will be $400. Trustee J. Norton made a motion seconded by Trustee W. Pawley to have Malloy do the letter on the vehicles.

Schultz stated there will be pipeline schooling on March 29, at the Comfort Inn.

Trustee J. Norton made a motion to raise the Fire Protection contract billing for Mueller Townships from $2,700 to $3,000 for Fire Dept., seconded by Trustee W. Pawley.

Assessor Albert Vail asked for a $30 a month pay raise starting this fiscal year. Trustee J. Norton made a motion to approve this pay raise seconded by Treasurer S. Hampton, motion carried.

Macklem Construction presented a bill for repairs to the floors and walls at the Township Hall caused by mildew and rot. Labor cost was $1,625 and material was $440.33. Trustee J. Norton made a motion to accept this bid seconded by Trustee W. Pawley, motion carried.

William Bowman has resigned from Cemetery Sexton position.

Marilyn Fischer asked the board for permission to submit an application to have Doyle Township Hall Palmer School a historical site, Trustee J. Norton made a motion to allow her to submit application seconded by Trustee W. Pawley.

We received the contract from the Schoolcraft County Road for dust control in Doyle Township. S. Hampton made a motion that because of the continued loss of revenue we will not enter into the 2012 contract, seconded by J. Norton, motion carried.

CUPPAD is asking for a letter of support for coastal zone management atlas project, the atlas would help those jurisdictions having coastlines. Supervisor L. Norton stated she would write letter of support if board approved. Trustee J. Norton made a motion seconded by Treasurer S. Hampton to have L. Norton send letter of support.

Community Health Needs

Assessment in 2012 in compliance with the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act, their objective is to identify the health strengths and needs of the hospital and our community. Trustee J. Norton will be attending this meeting.

Application to the DEQ WRD for Merit Network Inc for the proposed Utility Line In various township and cities in the UP (including Doyle Twp, this is part 301 of the Inland Lakes and Streams.)

Next regularly monthly board meeting will be held April 11, at 4:30 p.m. at the Doyle Township Hall.

With no other business to come before the board Trustee J. Norton made a motion to adjourn seconded by Trustee W. Pawley, motion carried.
