Dorothy M. Lee
Mich., died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique. Mich.
She was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Engadine, Mich., the daughter of Ray and Mae (Eddy) Hastings and was an honor graduate of the Gould City High School with the Class of 1940.
On Dec. 28, 1940, the former Dorothy M. Hastings married Vernon “Mick” Lee in Manistique. They made their home and raised their family in Mueller Township. Mick preceded her in death on June 27, 2009.
In addition to being a homemaker, Dorothy was a bookkeeper and fulltime partner with her husband Mick in the family cattle, logging and real estate businesses. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was an active member of the former Mennonite sewing and quilting circle and was a leader for Mueller Township 4-H Club. She was a creative sewer having made many wedding dresses for family members and friends, giving them all away as a gift to the bride for her special day.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Lois (David) LaRose of Manistique, Sally (Donald) Hughson of Gulliver and Jane (John) Kopecky of Gulliver; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-greatgrandchildren; along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son in 1942; and her sisters, Alicia Lee and June Toennessen.
Visitation was 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, April 4, at Messier- Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Funeral services were held at noon, at the funeral home, with Reverend Jay Martin officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.
