Geraldine M. Hoholik

Geraldine M. Hoholik, 95, of 126 N. Fourth St., Manistique, Mich., died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

She was born July 14, 1916, in Big Bay, Mich., the daughter of Frank and Helen (Morin) Fouchard and attended Manistique area schools. She was a graduate of Manistique High School and later graduated from Manistique Business College.

On Oct. 12, 1936, the former Geraldine M. Fouchard married Edwin J. Matthews and together, they had four daughters: Arleen, Janet, Mary and Nancy. Ed preceded her in death on March 25, 1944.

On May 17, 1948, Gerry married Martin E. Hoholik in Manistique and together they had three children: Jim, Patty and Pauline. Martin preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1991.

Over the years, Gerry was employed as a telephone operator, served hot lunch at the Manistique area schools and also worked at Schuster’s Red Owl.

She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique, Our Lady of Fatima Circle, Schoolcraft County V.F.W. Post No. 4420 Auxiliary and Manistique Senior Center. Gerry enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and going out for dinner with friends and family.

Gerry is survived by her children, Arleen (Wesley) Turan, Janet Gregurash, Mary (Leonard) LaFleur, Nancy (Donald) MacPhail, James (Patti) Hoholik, Patty (David) Huddleston all of Manistique, and Pauline (Robert) Klarich of Metamora, Mich.; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Betty) Fouchard of Marquette, Mich.; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Fouchard; and her sisters, Phyllis McKinney and Eileen Fouchard.

Visitation was held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 24, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 12:30 p.m., at the church, with Father Glenn Theoret officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Manistique.

Memorial donations may be directed to Manistique Senior Center or to Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility activities fund.
