Robert L. Knoph, Sr.
He was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Pontiac, Mich., the son of Emil A. and Grace (Dorman) Knoph and moved to Manistique as a child. He attended Manistique area schools and was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1948.
On March 20, 1950, he married the former Betty Jane Savage in Manistique and they raised their family in the area.
Bob was a lifelong contractor, owning and operating Knoph Construction for many years. He also owned Treasure City for many years. He loved working and being a business owner. He thoroughly enjoyed going on buying trips for Treasure City and visiting with customers and vendors.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manistique and Carpenters Union. He served as Manistique Township Justice of the Peace, sat of the Board of Review for many years, served on Manistique Area Schools’ school board, and Schoolcraft County Board of Appeals.
Bob donated many goods and services to the community and was instrumental in the construction of the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter building in Manistique Township.
He loved spending time with his family, being outdoors and relaxing in his back yard. He enjoyed fishing, scuba diving and caring for his horses. Bob was a big tease and had a quick sense of humor.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty J. Knoph of Manistique; sons, Robert (Jeannie) Knoph, Jr. of Thompson, Mich. and Terry A. Knoph of Manistique; daughters, Debbie (Greg) Hase, Kathy (Brian) Skok, Laurie (Jon) Johnson and Patti (Jason) Hubble all of Manistique; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Emil and Donald.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 23, at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique. Reverend Jay Martin will officiate.
