Bay de Noc elementary students started out their March Reading Month activities with a visit from award-winning children’s author, Lisa Wheeler. To date, Mrs. Wheeler has over 25 top-selling children’s books, with more to come over the next few years. Lisa Wheeler’s engaging presentations were varied according to the age group of the students and incorporated many meaningful instructional strategies. Big Bay students and staff were drawn in by Mrs. Wheeler’s entertaining use of props and her passion for books. The staff enjoyed watching the students respond to Lisa’s ‘bag of tricks’ for writing! Students were excited when they returned to class with many wonderful and insightful ideas about the purpose of writing and the realization that they could be published authors some day. Mrs. Wheeler ended her visit by writing personalized messages to the students in their very own book.
