Sidney J. Maglothin

Sidney J. Maglothin, 67, of Germfask, Mich., died Friday, March 2, 2012, at his home.

He was born Nov. 23, 1944, in Kingsville, Texas, the son of Joe and Lillie (Buxkember) Maglothin. He attended schools in Detroit, Mackinac City, Pellston and Petoskey, Mich., and was a graduate of St. Francis High School in Petoskey with the Class of 1963.

From 1965-1968, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp in Vietnam and in 1971, he married the former Cathy O’Neil.

Sid was employed as an iron worker with the Teamster’s Local No. 426 and was part of the rod buster crew.

Sid enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodwork, mushrooming, tending to his horses and creative hobbying. He was an innovator and a loving father. Sid had moved to the Upper Peninsula nine years ago from Cross Village, Mich.

Sid is survived by his children, Scott Maglothin of Petoskey, Michelle (Dan) Rushing of Cross Village and Jessy Maglothin of Cross Village; former wife and friend, Cathy of Cross Village; grandchildren, Emily Maglothin, Haley Rushing, Tyler Rushing and Joey Cole; mother, Lillie Maglothin of Petoskey; and his brothers, Jeff Maglothin of Petoskey, Dennis (Milicent) Maglothin of Oden, Mcih., Guy Maglothin of Bayshore, Mich., and David (Debbie) Maglothin of Ludington, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, George.

A celebration of Sid’s life will be held on March 17 from 2-5 p.m. at the Center Township Hall in Larks Lake, Mich.

Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique is assisting the family with arrangements.
